Jean-Claude Juncker: “I want Manfred Weber to become President of the European Commission”
This week Manfred Weber joined the EPP Group in San Sebastian, Spain, to discuss the EPP’s priorities for the years to come. The newly elected Group Chair was joined in support by Commission President, Jean Claude Juncker, the Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani and leader of the Spanish Partido Popular, Pablo Casado.
Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, informed the colleagues on the discussions among the Heads of States and Government on the strategic agenda for the future and the leadership of the European Union. As special negotiator for the EPP he confirmed our strong commitment to the lead candidate process and the candidacy of Manfred Weber to the Presidency of the European Commission. In a clear sign of unity, special guest Commission President Jean Claude Juncker, reinforced the EPP message: “I want Manfred Weber to become President of the European Commission. He will be a good President of the Commission.”
During the study days Manfred Weber also paid his respects to the victims of terrorism. Together with Pablo Casado and Antonio Tajani they visited the momument and reconfirmed their resolve that the fight against terrorism will remain a crucial priority for the EU in the future.
